I'm jealous of my friends without college degrees- no loans, great jobs, beautiful house, great kids... seems they have it all figured and I don't!

Really, with all that charm your degree is in engineering? It's bizarre that you live in a world in which anything besides math and engineering has no value. So we'll never see you watching TV or movies or down at any of the museums downtown, right? You and your family and visitors can just sit at home and work math problems for fun!

OP, no, I don't think less of people without degrees. I'm sometimes surprised since most people I meet have them but it isn't for everyone. Plus my father didn't go to college, and I know that always bothered him, so I would feel very bad about judging someone who didn't go, either.

The misuse of 'loose' for 'lose' is so common, I generally don't assume it is a typo.

No, but I don't have any respect for people who are willfully ignorant and wear their lack of formal education like a badge of honor, either. Kind of like, "I don't need no fancy book larnin'...". That's repugnant to me. Be a lifelong learner; expand your mind every chance you get.

A college degree does not represent intelligence or wisdom. It represents how well you manage time to complete the busy work and how hard you are willing to work under conditions that are nothing like the real world.

I have a well paid professional in my office that doesn't have a 4 year degree. He is married to a doctor. If our field 'computer engineering' its possible to teach yourself but I feel lime its hard to really understand without the foundation that the degree gives you.

Degrees today come in different levels of quality. All things considered it does take something to finish one.

Two of the smartest people I've ever known didn't have college degrees. They included my grandfather, and a New York Times reporter who won the Pulitzer Prize.

Lots of people without degrees make more money than people with degrees. And plenty of people with degrees are jerk offs.

Regardless, even if somebody has no money, that has nothing to do with whether or not I respect them. Earning my respect has to do with values, doing the right thing, being a good person, etc. It has nothing to do with badges of success or a degree.

Bill Gates didn't have a college degree. Neither did Steve Jobs. Or Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle. Or Michael Dell. Or Ted Turner or Kirk Kerkorian or Ralph Lauren or Roman Abramovich.

All of them are billionaires.

Therefore I believe there is more than one way to demonstrate intelligence, creativity, ambition, and dedication. Making it through four years of drinking/semi studying for B minuses pales in comparison to the accomplishments of these guys.

I have an undergrad degree in nursing. Is my degree "stupid"?
