Subject: How did your below “average” SMACs student do
OP coming from the magnet those are stats great. I know a B+ average kid from the magnet who got in to UMCP in the past few years. Really smart kid, just messed up in a few classes. In this child's case he told us it was just do to being less interested in the work in the classes so different from your kid. It wasn't for CS though. I think it might have been applied math or something similar.

About 20% of the entire school of Blair gets into UMD.
Only 33% of the whole school have weighted GPA above 4.5.
Average SAT for Blair whole school is 1200.
Your 3.8 GPA slightly below average magnet student who already passed several AP exams is fine.
