If there is some class that usually discuss Current Events/topics in the news then it's fine. If a student raises their hand to discuss or ask about it fine. But the system does not need to go out of its ways to acknowledge or discuss this.

It could be appropriate if ALL events were acknowledged but they aren't. Why do schools send messages for select events?
