3% income tax is rather low. Those sales taxes and property taxes are moderately low. Military pension and SS income not included in income tax base. Lots of nice places to hike in the summer, close to civilization and several major international airports. Both spouse and I born and raised in the NE and lived on east coast most of our lives.

I know people who have recently moved to FL and TN from this area. Three already had houses in FL but changed their residency from DC to FL (and are legit spending more time there). The one in TN moved there for real, although still has a condo in DC. Texas seems to be a lace people from California move to to ovoid state taxes. I also know people who have changed their residency from MA and NJ to FL.

You must not have a lot of money. It’s a real consultation for retirees. Many retirees in NE states are paying 50-75k a year in property and state taxes. That’s a huge chunk of change.

PA also doesn’t tax pensions.

If they are paying that much they must have a ton of equity and astronomical retirement income too.
