Unfortunately Monifa McKnight was able to walk away from mcps with a bunch of $ and then get hired at UMD. As a moco resident this pisses me off. Does it piss me off so much that I want to spend an extra $100k+ per child to send them out of state? No, I cannot afford to protest her hiring.

What does she do at UMD? Is she a fixer that finds ways to cover up improper conduct?

The PP is obsessed with the former MCPS Superintendent and never hesitates to mention this in every UMD thread. I take it with a grain of salt since many of the former MCPS superintendents have been flops but PP only cares about this one. Even if you assume what they say is true, find me a major public flagship where a man hasn’t failed upward into a job. I mean at a minimum think all the college athletic scandals. If there were actually any kid of consistent criteria, the PP would be tracking where multiple MCPS superintendents have gone. The would also be protesting many public flagships for people that are offered a position when they didn’t do great at their last job.

My kid joined UH for the dorms - Pyon Chen. Awesome dorms. They dropped it second year because they felt it was just more classes that they had to take. They are graduating in three years (this year) with two bachelors (thanks to lots of credits going in). They also didn't find the UH courses that year very interesting. But then, DC is a STEM major. That year, a lot of the UH courses seem to be more for humanities type majors, which DC wasn't interested in.

IMO, honors kids also do party, but of course, ymmv. The thing about such a large college is that it has a diverse student body, in more ways than one.

My daughter got accepted to the UMD honors college. Listed UH as #1 program. major: criminology
Can anyone share experiences in the honors college, specifically:
1) What are the real benefits vs regular enrollment? Is it just extra work?
2) Do honors kids socialize/party, or is everyone just in their rooms studying?

Seems like everyone's kid only went to umd for CS engineering. Business is an oversubscribed major. How is the Biology program at UMD?

Our lab has a lot of UMD interns, and I am almost always impressed with them.

If you kid is in the physical sciences at UMD, have them watch out for the JIFSAN internship program. UMD doesn't do a great job of advertising it and it is an awesome opportunity. Announcement should be soon.
