I lived in Foggy Bottom right after college and took the orange to and from work every day. I told my dad I saw a homeless guy defecating on the train. That weekend he bought me a new VW Jetta to drive to work and paid my building's parking fee for me. Lol.

Metro is a time of day thing. We avoid certain stops/lines if school is in session. At night only ride 1 specific route. I wear old shoes and clothes that go in the washer and usually a lightweight raincoat.

That became an addition when on a weekend a kid in a stroller squirted me with a juicebox. One day I was sitting next to a person eating a messy burrito.

I don't understand- you say you take metro to work most days but that lots of people are like you- live near metro but rarely use it.

Yes, the tons and tons of people who ride it every day don't care about these things either.

Not the PP but it doesn't exactly scream privilege for someone to explain why they don't ride Metro. Have you not seen the reports about the declining ridership? Poor leadership, unskilled workers, and poor maintenance have all taken their toll on this amateurish transit system.

I don't use metro but DH does twice a day every workday. Metro is consistently better than driving in. The orange line in va is packed with people in work attire every rush hour.

I live in a $2M house and live a few miles from Metro, which I use regularly to get downtown, at least when Metro is somewhat functional.

I live in a big house near Metro and take it to work most days. We never ever ever use it on weekends or evenings. When we lived in DC we basically never used it even though we lived 5 mins away. The service is so awful and it's such a bad experience that lots of people are like us -- live very close to Metro, but very rarely use it. I guess if I didn't value my time or ever have to be on time to things and didn't care about my safety I would ride.

I don't consider myself a millionaire, even though on a single income I have a 895K condo. (Remember, people tend to punch ABOVE their weight in real estate). Yes, I use the metro.

PP again--DH's office is business casual, so you would never see him in nice suits or shoes. Not sure clothing is the standard I would use when evaluating if white-collar people use metro.

I don't know about "wealthy" but we live in a house probably worth now about 1.4 m, near the Friendship Heights metro, and DH uses it every day to go to and from work.

After a couple years out of college everyone I know hated the Metro and bought a car. The novelty quickly wore thin. Is this just a real estate perk or are these millionaires actually using the Metro? If yes, for what and how frequently? I very rarely saw anyone wearing nice shoes/suits on the Metro.
