Basic Concepts is a one month camp and does do academics but it would be a trek from the city. Lab is super expensive.

Which camp specifically do you recommend that is not weekly? We will be staying in NW DC. Are you in the area? Perhaos we can get together for play dates, possibly with a mediator if necessary. Would you be interested?

We have a child that will be 6 in early summer and is HFA/twice exceptional. Social skills is our main deficit. We are older parents too.

I highly recommend that you consider one of the social skills/speech camps mentioned. That is what we are doing. I am not sure that any of those offer academics however - ask each program if they do or for referrals to groups that do. We are not going to work on academics this summer as we really want to focus on social skills.

If you want your DC to get to know a kid or two, you might want to focus on programs that are not week to week - as there may be a lot of turnover of kids each week. Just a thought.

Lab School in DC is a potential option too.

If you are wanting to live in VA, I do not know any there.

My son speaks mostly in 5 word sentences. Sometimes more. He is really behind socially. He has some "friends" but one is much lower functioning and rarely responds, others are too advanced. He is very interested in having a friend. Since I'm an older mom, my friends kids are in college mostly. He started Kindergarten this school year, so I also need to keep up in academics this summer.

If you want someone to put together a program for you you should contact Weinfeld Educational Group but a camp is probably your best option. TLC, Basic Concepts, Auburn or Sienna are all good options. For these you would want to be living in the MD burbs.

Have you tried looking into the Auburn school? They have a summer camp that focuses on social skills and speech.

I think TLC or Basic Concepts also have summer programs.

There is also Fitness for Health but reviews are mixed.

Are you looking for a full day program, like a camp that integrates all of that, or individual therapies.

We live in Florida, but plan to spend the summer in DC. My DS is six ASD. Can you recommend someone that can give me info and help me create a summer plan?on programs, therapists etc. I would like him to receive language therapy, social ( he doesn't initiate with other kids that much) , and academics. Perhaps some of you can give me your recommendations. It us also a way to test if it is worth moving to your area, as we are not thrilled we the offerings here, especially schools. Thank you.
