What's the average expected hourly rate?

My nephews have a sliding scale for those who really need a helping hand (the elderly, disabled, single moms with young kids, etc.), but they are still charging based on the amount of snow removed rather than by the hour.

We don't want to overcharge. Several are elderly or retired neighbors. But I don't want him to undercharge either. It is a lot of snow and will be a lot more work than a normal snowstorm.

What do you all think of $10.00 per 6" of snow? Our neighborhood has primarily single car driveways.

Don't charge the elderly. Yankee here. They might offer the teens something, it is up to the teens if they accept it, maybe after complete insistence. The teens should only shovel as many driveways as they can.

For illegals it's $60-$80. Lawn companies are charging $80/hr with 2 hour minimum. He should charge at least $40, if not more.

OP, I'd tell your kid to ask for $40 or $45. Depending on the neighbor, they might try to 'negotiate'. Then, he might have some room to accept less. I wouldn't do it for less than $35! There's a lot of snow

In our neighborhood, we pay about $55 to shovel the walk and the driveway. They're mostly single family houses with shortish driveways and the sidewalk/walkway in front.

To the PP who's teens are asking $25 - that is WAY too low! It takes a good amount of time to shovel 2 feet of snow. I agree to pay them more.

Teens in my area are asking $25. I think they are short changing themselves. If I was to hire I would make sure to offer them hot chocolate during their work. In February 2010, it literally took me a full day to shovel.

My 12 year old was paid $40 last year to clear walkways and the driveway. It will take much longer to dig out this time.

It depends on the size, but I think it will take hours even for just a regular driveway. So, I'd suggest doing it by the hour - maybe $5 an hour. Also, your kids might want to do the driveways periodically throughout the snow instead of all at once.

$3 an inch is the going rate I've heard recently.

You need to do it based on inches too. 4" is way different than 12".
I would start at $40 and go from there. Also you can have the option of PayPal to your account if they don't have cash

NOVA please.

My middle schooler has been asked to do a couple of neighbors' driveways.

They old him to let them know his rate.

Trying to decide what is a fair rate for a normal snow vs this blizzard. Last year he charged between $20-30 depending on the length of the driveway.
