I just don't want to encourage fake posters which would be the case if I ignored the thread. The poster should do a better job faking it next time, or simply post honestly.

So why not just delete the posts calling troll, and leave the rest of the thread unless/until it actually becomes trollish? It's disappointing that a potentially useful/productive thread can be pulled because a few people decided to derail it.

You are putting the blame in the wrong place. You should be asking the OP why she created a fake thread. Do you really believe she started a fake thread in order to provoke a useful discussion? Not likely. If you want to have a useful -- and honest -- discussion about pre-nuptials, start one.

I'm not sure you guys understand, there is nothing wrong with a thread about pre-nuptials. The thread wasn't deleted because it was about pre-nuptials. Go start a thread about pre-nuptials if the subject interests you. Just don't create fake threads.

Agreed. While it may have been a troll, I think it is healthy to discuss pre-nuptials. I hate the fact that the prevalent advice when someone asks whether to sign pre-nuptial is to run and consider it a non-starter if someone wants to protect family or business assets.

I always advise people who are in that situation to spend the couple of hundred dollars to retain legal counsel to review your personal situation. Until someone knows exactly what each potential spouse has, what they want to keep, and what their future concerns are, there is no way to give good advice to the individual. Every situation is unique and while most situations don't need a pre-nuptial, there are many that do and it's important to have experienced legal counsel to help you thread your way through the topic and your individual circumstances to appropriately advise each person.

Why was the thread on prenups deleted? I'm sure you had your reasons for believing the OP was making up a fact pattern, but nothing inflammatory was being said, nothing was stirring up drama, and it seemed like it was at least shaping up to be an informative discussion of how to put together a proper prenup that protects both parties, which might have been helpful to someone else who was reading along, or might have found the thread later in a search.
