As another single mother by any definition, I say "who cares"? Everyone carries their own burdens. I'm doing well and hope everyone else is on this holiday.

A single parent is someone doing it alone - no ex to take the kids, no child support or financial help from another parent. 100% alone. Otherwise, you are single and co-parenting or divorced and co-parenting, etc.

I think a "single parent" is someone who doesn't have the other children's parent around to depend on for taking care of various parental things.

If you're divorced by have a good relationship with your ex who shared the effort, then I don't think of you as a "single parent." One might be not married and not in a relationship, therefore they're "single." They may also be a "parent." But they're not a "single parent."

If the other parent is not around (whether through death, abandoning of responsibilities, etc), then that to me makes someone a "single parent."

I really don't consider myself a single parent because my ex has the kids twice during the week and every other weekend. Am I?
