Why is she a "poor tween" if she is covered up for her own and her familiy's religious and cultural beliefs? I don't want to hijack here, but I think it's great when I see girls covered up to swim because I think it shows amazing character!

These are great! And probably cheaper than the mall stuff.

All the Tweens were wearing cute 2 piece suits, lots of ruffles and one shoulder look. Time to move beyond the year round swim team speedo one piece look.

Why? Why is there a need for little girls to strut around in barely there bikinis and bathing suits? Why do you even want to see that at the pool?

The ruffle and one shoulder ones and the ones on the Target link are modest and cute. Unless you're Muslim (which may have been the case at our pool for the one poor tween in a full scuba suit).

My daughter is 10 and I'm dreading this happening at some point. She's been relatively happy with our current set up: only Speedo sport suits, we never shop together for them. She's been happy with my excuse that the ones sold at places like Macy's and Target are made poorly and ride up/down at inopportune times.

No great advice, OP, but I want to say good for you for setting limits. Good luck!

Tell her how uncomfortable those things could be. If she is going to a party she won't be able to enjoy herself, having to constantly check if this or that strap didn't ride too high or too low.

Remember the uproar over the padded bikini tops for children. That thread must still be on here somewhere. The manufacturers pulled the suits in the end due to consumer feedback.

Pretty much you aren't alone in saying no to padded bikinis for your child.

OP,

I have been at our neighborhood pool for the past two days and I have seen young teen and tween girls wearing bikinis with small ruffles all over the top. Not padded, but may satisfy her search for volume up top without really creating any actual volume. If you look online at any of the how to flatter your figure swimsuit guidelines they will encourage ruffles up top for a small bust on a grown woman. Target has some tops like these. Target also has 3 piece suits with a bikini bottom that is pretty plain, a triangle style bikini top with a halter style tie behind the neck, and a rash guard. Not that she will wear the rash guard, but a mom can hope.

Stick to your guns OP. Your 11 yr old doesn't need to look sexy no matter what example older girls are setting.

OP thank you for setting boundaries, as someone who is around MS girls at work.

Or how about a monokini?

It was a disaster and ended in tears, and I was pretty close to crying myself. She wants what boils down to a bikini I am willing to compromise this year and upgrade from a tankini to a more "sporty" two piece. So I was picking out suits with a sports bra top or a shorter tankini top. She wants a true triangle bikini top...she especially wants a padded top! I was just not ready for it, she came out in suits that you buy to go on your college spring break trip to Panama City! We went to justice, American eagle, and Macy's. I told her we are going to get a good nights sleep and go out with fresh attitudes in the morning. (we have a swim party at 2 pm tom) I am thinking of going to Target. Anyone btdt with advice? It's a really hard age and I want us to both find something we like or else it will be a long long summer. I told my husband if we find one we both agree on I'm buying every print/color and am not even looking at the price! This is a desperate time!
