Any suggestions? She likes what's in the Lands End catalog but after reading reviews on their website, it seems something is screwy with the fit & sizing on their suits this year. I can't deal with multiple returns, etc so am looking elsewhere. She didn't like anything at LLBean, Old Navy, or Childrens Place. She wants a tankini (which is fine with me; bikini is not fine) & I want as much sun protection/ skin coverage as possible, and nothing "sexy." She is a very thin 10-yr old with no curves or boobs yet. ![]() |
You can try Garnet Hill or the Gap. For years I've dreaded swimsuit shopping for my tall, thin, modest daughters. That's a shame about Lands End - those tankinis have been popular in my house too - maybe they'll fix the fit problem later in the season. I know you said you prefer to shop online, but I've had some luck going to LL Bean and Target with my daughters and having them try on suits - we usually find at least one. One year we found no tankinis my older daughter liked so she settled for some cute one-pieces from Gap & Target. Good luck! |
I recommend a one piece swimsuit made by Speedo or one of the other competitive swimsuit manufacurers for her primary suit. The prints and designs are very attractive and they are comfortable and flattering. These can be ordered online. |
Honestly, Traget has some nice tankinis that aren't revealing/inappropriate for 10 year old girls at all. And I find they last and wear as well as the Lands End ones.
Plus with Target, they are cheap enough that she can have a couple! |
Sears sells some Lands' End bathing suits. Maybe they have what she's looking for. |
The good thing about the Lands End tankinis this year is that they are selling the tops and bottoms separately so you can be sure to get the right fit on top and bottom. I know you don't like the returns, but what I did was order everything DD liked in two sizes (because we weren't sure how they would fit) during a time when there was a sale and free shipping. She tried everything on, we picked what she liked, and I returned the rest. It was a bit of a pain to do the returns, but much less of a hassle than driving around to a ton of stores.

What about Boden or mini-Boden? I've never purchased a swim suit from them, but they look like a good cross between pretty and decent coverage? |
Boden makes very good quality swimsuits but if you are anti-bikini the options one pieces only, I think. |
But the bad thing is that they don't sell separates. My DD tried on tankini's this weekend but if the top fit then the bottom didn't. She is relatively thin. |
LL Bean. Boys won't give her a second glance. Go from tween to dowdy in one fell swoop. |
Any Lands End purchase can be returned to a Sears store. I usually buy several sizes/styles and then return. |
nordstroms, lad and lassie in Bethesda, Lilly store, macys |
Hanna Andersson, Mini Boden, LL Bean, CWD |
Hanna Andersson has some cute rashguard tees that would meet the sun protection factor, but a 10 year old might think they're too babyish, depends on how she generally approaches those things. The girls ones have some bright prints, but there are some boys ones that are plain white or with a plainer print, so maybe she would agree to one of those. With a coordinating bottom. I don't think they have any tankinis in the current line.
Roxy also has some girl's rashguards. I agree with the department stores or Target because they will probably have a bigger selection. |
Ditto Boden. My tween loves their stuff, and it is totally age-appropriate. She thinks Hanna is now too "babyish", and I can't find anything at Target or Gap that doesn't look like it belongs on a stripper. |
