The problem with the ergo is that it can't be used for very small babies that don't have any head control yet. For the first 6 months or so, a Bjorn is a life saver.

Another Dad of twins (4 weeks old) here. I second the gifts of time and delivered meals. As the cook and primary housekeeper in the household, the one thing that I was short of was time to do everything that I was used to doing. My mom was visiting for a week and just having her do the twins laundry daily and then help me keep the house clean was a godsend. My best friend filled our freezer with 30 meals worth of food for us and separated things into 2-person portions so that when we didn't have time, we could just pop something in the microwave.

When the twins are little you will be glad for anything that will make them happy for even a few minutes so you can go to the bathroom, eat some food, or focus on feeding / comforting one baby. Bouncy chairs, swings and such are all good.

Carriers are a good idea too, but I never like the "wrap" type carriers. I found that the baby bjorn was more useful. It allowed me to do the dishes when one baby was sleeping, but the other was awake.

I agree that the best gift would be coming over to help after the birth (or hiring a mother's helper for a few weeks). Barring that, diapers.com gift certificate would definitely come in handy. We used swaddleme blankets, too and loved them, but I know lot@ of twins with reflux, so they would want at least 4.

Two bouncy seats. The inexpensive ones (http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=product&pid=63022&ncat=thumbnail&pcat=bgb) where they can bounce, have vibration, etc. We used ours especially when bottle feeding both at once. (Even if she's bf, there's a good chance she may pump, so bottles will still be in the mix) or just somewhere to put one baby while holding the other.

I personally hated the wrap things. I'm not that coordinated!

Diapers are also always welcome!

I highly recommend against the memory book. I received 4 as gifts...zero are filled out.

The moby wrap is great, I was like the other poster, and only wore one at a time. Swaddle me's were a lifesaver.

The Moby wrap was lifesaver for me early on. Sometimes I wore both babies in it but I found it more useful to put one in it so could do something else with the other (feed, change, etc)

I vote for the Moby. Or food.

Trying to think of a gift for a mom of newborn twins...

So far I'm thinking a Moby wrap (I've seen pics of moms carrying both babies) or a maid service gift certificate? And was also trying to find a memory book for twins? Haven't found one, but could maybe create one.
