The general advice is to have a balanced list of 9-12. 3-4 reaches 5 targets and 3-4 likely.

Older DD (outside your 3 year window) applied to maybe 14 and was accepted to maybe 9 or 10– she applied to more reaches, but also got into two reaches…

Kid #1, applied to 6, accepted at 3, WL at 1 (he told them no), deferred at 1 (he told them no), rejected at 1
