It's definitely do-able (if a bit of a scramble) for families with kids in camp / 2 working parents, but optimized for those with more flexibility. We try to split the difference with about half of the weeks in camp and half where we make the later morning practices work.

Our coaches/leadership want it to be fun so there's not any notable attendance pressure (but it's a great experience and kids are drawn to be there).

This is brilliant. Which pool?

Ours is 8:15-9:15 for 9-12; 9:15-10 8u and mini; 13+ 10-11:00. Tough for working parents and teens who have summer jobs or take summer classes.

Can’t speak to current start times, but I swam in NVSL in early 2000s and this was standard start time for 13+ because we all had summer jobs to get to. I guess kids don’t work during the summer like we used to?

I think this is the reason when our pool has this early practice for 13+ as well, but pretty much all those kids work summer jobs at the pool- so could totally have a later practice. My kids are actually pretty fine with the early start (and hard core club swimmers probably feel like they are sleeping in, lol) but it does seem nuts. Especially because the younger kids need to get to camp- so it would make sense for them to have the earlier practice!

While FCPS is in session:
13-18 - 4:00-5:00 pm
9-12 - 5:00-6:00 pm
8&U - 6:00-6:45 pm

After FCPS ends:
8&U - 7:45-8:30 am
9-12 - 8:30-9:30 am
13-18 - 9:30-10:30 am

Our learn-to-swim program for littles runs from 8:45-9:15 am on Tuesday-Thursday after FCPS is done.

We tried afternoon practices a few years ago, but the demand was so limited that we decided that it just didn't make sense, especially since we'd be closing at least one lane to our members.

It's really unfortunate that we have to possibly deny some kids the opportunity to join the team because of practice times, but we had to make that judgment call on what we felt was best for the coaches and pool members. Perhaps we'll revisit that decision in the future if it makes sense.

No evening hours for us. This is why we can't do summer swim.

What times are your summer swim age group practices? Is there an afternoon or evening option?
