Swim is definitely a cut sport at WJ, depending on how many kids try out. At least it was when my daughter swam a couple years ago

The cut time standard is generous enough that most summer swimmers will easily make it (the time standard), it just depends on how many people try out in a given year. I think there are maybe 60 spots available between both the boys and girls teams. I think this year everyone who tried out made it. I think most people on the team get to swim in most meets because there are so many relays and often club swimmers are missing dual meets for club meets. Just to say, it’s not no cut, but it’s definitely accessible and fun.

Cross country/track is a great environment and will allow your child to meet lots of people. That's your best bet.

Apparently track WAS a cut sport at WJ last year. There were too many kids who joined and there was a maximum so a bunch of kids got cut but that doesn’t happen very often.

Does anyone know about this at Churchill?

My kid wants to try events she's never done (high jump, shot put). I've no idea how she could practice/learn before the actual season begins.

Ultimate is a club sport. I think all the club sports are no cut. The ultimate team is really fun and is co-Ed. A little speed and coordination helps but no prior frisbee experience needed!

OP - for a boy or a girl? It matters as some girls sports are almost no cut even in larger competitive schools. Softball, volleyball in some schools.

Here's a recent thread for girls' sports. Someone mentioned the ultimate frisbee team shared with Whitman, a non-school club.

Cross Country, indoor Track, Track. Both track teams have limited spots in events, though.

Crew, but it's not school-sponsored, so it costs money (financial aid is available I believe).

It's a TON of work, but the nice thing is, almost all kids start rowing in 9th, so everyone is learning together.

My DS loved the crew team -- great work-out and it really helped him learn discipline to get his homework done efficiently rather than futzing around wasting time.
