+1 I like feeling superior as much as anyone, but it is just sad that filmmakers feel that nuance is too much for the average viewer. I did think they did an excellent job retaining the book’s intention with the filmed Olive Kitteridge series, but then Frances McDormand elevates everything she is in.

NP and +1 to this.
This movie is absolutely not for everyone; I think it's the kind of plot a viewer either hates immediately or find emotionally moving. And that's OK; it's just not going to be universally loved. OP, if you hated it, why keep watching? You could have bowed out after the first half hour when it was clear the plot wasn't going to be sunshine and roses. And PP is correct: You missed the fact that Otto becomes neurotic and overprotective after the accident.
I want to add here, like the movie adds before it begins, that it is definitely not for anyone who has an issue with depictions of attempted suicide. Truly should be avoided if seeing clear depictions is upsetting. I was glad to see the warning at the start of the film.

The book was amazing. The movie just ok t Hanks wouldn't have been my first choice of casting.

Now he worked full time and had a big degree, his wife worked full time too. Why did they live in this dump the next 30 years?
He also start a riff her family. As they were not at his funeral or involved. Her parents saw some broke guy who paralyzed their daughter and killed their grandchild
One of the worst movies I've watched this year. So sad, and dumb, and patronizing.

I've read A Man Called Ove, and watched that movie. I didn't enjoy either of them.
This plot for Otto sounds completely different. I just thought it was an American remake of Ove.

Why did everyone dislike this movie? There's another thread from January about this movie and everyone pretty much hated it.
My mom and I watched it over the weekend and we both really enjoyed it.
