This is just guessing, but a lot of people who say they are unhappy with a certain school's special ed services have not gone all-out to get a strong IEP and enforcing it. Until we did that, we really got very little. The school will always try to get you to accept "response to intervention" or a 504 instead.

It takes a lot of effort to get AND ENFORCE a strong IEP.

"Luckily" in our case, the school was motivated in the end, since DC was causing a huge disruption to the other kids.

And, I hate to say it, some people just always see the negative. Understandable, but it can distort information for others. I know people who are tremendously negative about our current school's services, whereas I am really happy.

IME, WJ was very good with our IEP student (neighborhoods just north of Suburban Hospital would be "closest" to downtown Bethesda in the WJ cluster.

OP I live in Bethesda and I pass it all the time. It is a good school. My teens go to Whitman but I'd have been very happy with them at BCC. We also work with one of their current teachers as a a tutor and she is amazing.

When we first moved to Bethesda about 13 yrs ago I read that a lot of folks moved up from DC for the schools. This has not changed. I don't think you'll be disappointed, by the comparison to DC at least. Good luck.

JR is more similar than different to MCPS, so you may get better advice if you speak to what specifically at JR you're not satisfied with. Is it "just" the LD support? If so, what is the LD? If it's more, what are the other issues?

This is not to dissuade you from BCC. It's a terrific school that is truly diverse and filled with all kinds of creative and amazing kids. The IB program is fantastic. But if you send your kid to BCC, just remember that you will have to be a squeaky wheel and really advocate for them.

My DD goes to BCC and loves it. But she is a high achieving athlete with no social issues. It may not be the best fit for those who do not fit that mold.

I have heard that WJ and Whitman are better suited for those with LD. Mostly b/c of demographics -- they do not get as many kids who need interventions at BCC and are therefore less overwhelmed.

WW and BCC are both fine schools. One of the better HS in MoCo no matter what DCUM says. I can't tell you what support they have for your specific situation though.

We are not pleased with our DC HS and are moving over the line for his 10th grade. He has some mild LD and is not getting support. We are exploring Bethesda schools (WW, BCC). Would appreciate any insights on the school FWIW we are at Jackson Reed.
