In my friend’s case if they’re good enough, 8th grade is so important for high school recruiting. Driving to MD 2 nights a week which isn’t bad if you’re coming from Alexandria to Ft Washington and the exposure of that team and coach’s connections can get you recruited for a top 5 private with generous aid.
Most of Nova isn't tiny Alexandria. No one sane is driving from Loudoun, Vienna, Centreville, Gainesville etc to PG for basketball practice. A kid who is good enough to play with a top HS team will get recruited whether he plays for the Stars (their rising 8th team is not good BTW, OP) or with a bunch of PG superstars. And, OP never said that was her goal. It is nearly impossible to make the best teams. She should aim lower.

Was hoping for specific 8th grade teams. In NC where we moved from there could be a good club but a certain grade level was terrible even though the club was good. Feel me?

These are pretty much the major players in this area. Mostly practice in PG county even if the have tryouts in VA.
I’d say ranking wise right now (my son just graduated 8th) are:
DNA Elite
Team Take Over (TTO) look for both names in IG
Team Durant
Team Melo MD
DC Premier
Other mentions
DMV Rebels
Team Vito
You have to be really good to make the A teams for these teams. At least 4 or 5 boys that just finished 8th grade and are coming off summer league with their new high school for fall already have high D1 level offers.
I’m sure you know this but DC basketball scene is something fierce. If your kid is at least 6’2 he should be able to get a spot on any of these teams, at least B team. And trust me even B teams are competitive.
