We’re traveling by car but have a multi-thousand dollar trip planned. I read a Forbes article about companies that covered Covid-related cancellations and itinerary changes. I called Nationwide on Sunday and actually got a person who was patient with my questions and the price was reasonable so I went with them. I have no idea how easy or hard their claims process is if needed.

The problem is so few people ever have to make a claim on travel insurance. So all the reviews are like “great price, so easy to book!” but you have no idea what will happen if you actually need to make a claim.

Meaning, no, a travel insurance company wouldn't deal with rebooking. They reimburse after a claim, backed up by documents.

I haven’t had anything beyond small claims but so far Allianz has been good. They were recommended by my posh travel planner for my winter trip (a large luxury travel company) so i assume they’re fairly reliable.
