My favorite book I read in 2021 was The Heart's Invisible Furies. It's on the list of my all-time favorites. Don't let the length dissuade you. It's the type of book where it doesn't feel as long as it is. I was actually sad when it was over. It is such a good story and while the subject matter is heavy, the author is so skilled at also including humor so it balances out.

So, one more vote petitioning for a separate forum? It’s very easy for these book threads to get lost in the Entertainment thread, and I rarely look for them when they’re not on the first page of listings.


I re-read The Saturday Morning Murder : A Psychoanalytic Case — the first book in the series by Batya Gur. This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors.

I like that you are keeping book topics here, though. What do you have planned for future months? Reddit has some good repeating weekly/monthly prompts I’m some of the book subreddits.

Like a monthly, what did you read, during the last week of the month, or maybe also top and bottom books you read, recommendations you liked from others, maybe a quarterly one on books you’re looking forward to, or even monthly local or virtual book events (B&N used to do stuff, not sure now. Scrawl in Reston has a newsletter for in person and virtual stuff).


Also maybe best audiobooks. Some people’s voices are just amazing, may be fun to share those, too.

The Umbrella ☂ Lady by V.C. Andrews.

As a Gen Xer who grew up reading her salacious novels - this one was surprisingly good.
The sequel not so much.

Worst ending ever! 😠

Caste. I read it for my work book club (on diversity committee). I’m a white middle aged woman. It’s very readable, and I cannot un-see the American caste system now.

Circe - I liked Greek myths as a kid and I really like reading a book having to do with that & I also thought it was entertaining.

Just finished the Only woman in the room by Marie Benedict. True story and amazing about the actress Hedy Lamarr and her life.

I love Klara and the Sun and The House in the Cerulean Sea (came out in 2020, but I read it last year). Both very different but very memorable.
