Kate would never be Queen Consort, she will just be Queen. Queen Consort is a new title that Elizabeth created as a compromise to Charles’ nonstop badgering for over a decade to make Camilla Queen. Elizabeth wanted her to stay with Princess after Charles took the thrown. Elizabeth never wanted Camilla to take a Queen title because Elizabeth always took positions that were best for sustaining the monarchy over her family’s wishes. She knew that there was still a sizable portion of the UK that loves Diana and see Camilla as the home wrecker, affair partner. No amount of PR rehabilitation or buying off the media will change this so best to avoid risking the monarchy just to make Camilla happy. Charles does not share his mothers devotion to the monarchy. He’s planning on dropping the consort title which is a stupid mistake. The next mistake is allowing Camilla’s grandchildren to play a larger role in the coronation. They are breaking with tradition to include them in lieu of more traditional roles. This will occur in contrast to not including his blood grandchildren from Harry. It doesn’t matter whether Harry s popular or not. The visual of the affair partners grandkids front and center while two of Charles and Diana’s grandkids are excluded is ugly. This also won’t play well with the younger generation that already doesn’t support Charles. It looks like he’s making a big show of presenting his blended family while glaringly excluding the ones f mixed race, There’s a reason why Charles and Camilla face protesters every time they go out in public.
Harry’s kids are 4 and 2. What role are they going to play at the coronation, place Gramps crown on his head?
My understanding is that Camilla’s grandchildren will be holding something over her while she is anointed. You would think that you could do some variation of that for Charles with his grandchildren/children perhaps with the parents or other family members holding the kids to do so. Idk. Does not seem crazy. I’d imagine the person who puts the crown on Charles head would be the Archbishop of Canterbury.
DP. No, it doesn’t seem crazy — but it does seem ill-advised. Charles has already made this a smaller coronation than previous ones. He’s done this by decreasing the number of British aristocrats — his most natural supporters, and including instead, representatives of foreign nations, and Camilla’s non-Royal, non-aristocratic grandkids. This potentially alienates at least some members of the aristocracy who would have expected prominent roles in all of this, while further alienating both those who revere Diana and those who find Charles’s behavior problematic, particularly in his role as Defender of the Faith. That’s over and above the way many view the execrable way that Charles has treated his mixed race grandchildren — who, I agree, are really too young to have any active role in the coronation, but who, in a healthier family, or even in a healthier APPEARING family, would probably have a planned moment or two adding cuteness to the proceedings along with the extended family on a balcony or some other symbolic setting.
