I've read that as well--that a person or persons were using the guns for "target practice" during breaks.  That sounds like a logical (no less tragic, but logical) reason why there would have been live ammunition in that gun.

Right.  The presence of live ammo on the set is because of stupid gun nuts.  It's possible that some cast/crew members were sneaking the (apparently only?) working gun out and playing around with it and live ammo, without the armorer knowing or being involved, but really unlikely.  She's a stupid gun nut, from her social media presence.  She has a lot of explaining to do.  [/quote]
