You can try renting an apartment on air b&b as a surprise for DH (you can pretend you're going on a trip straight after work and then drive to the air b&b). This would allow you to see what it's like to commute via car (or better yet bus!) in 
the city and if you like the "lets just leave the house and walk to a fun bar or restaurant" life. I really hope you listen to your own desires OP. Even though I was initially scared to leave the suburbs, I secretly always wanted to live in the city. I am so, so glad I did. Don't ignore this desire and remember that most of the people on DCUM are suburbanites with nothing better to do (my kid is sick and I'm trying to stay awake!). [/quote]
