Plenty of people from dysfunctional homes, grow up to be compassionate, kind, empathetic human beings. Plenty of people from loving, warm, supportive households, grow up to be malicious and violent. I don't know if there's some evolutionary or adaptive biological element that compels some men/boys to turn out to be like this, but it's nothing new. The race/religion/ethnicity/socio-economic class doesn't matter. But women, overwhelmingly by and large, don't do stuff like this - and they grow up in the same types of households as boys/men.
