no one else finds it odd that of all the friends one has, you would bring someone so seemingly random and new to a family wedding? just bc you can bring someone does not mean you SHOULD?!
Maybe. But have you truly never had an instant friend before - someone you met and pretty quickly knew would be a friend for life? I have - including a best friend from grad school - and can say that bringing them to a siblings wedding would have meant more long term than the random guy I dated for a few months at 25. I also had people at my wedding I'd never met before, but they were important to my parents or in laws so I was glad they were there. I also had friends at my wedding I've since lost touch with, and now-spouses of the bridal party that weren't there because we weren't aware of the relationship at the time - that's the way life goes. It's a wedding - you're marrying the love of your life, combining families, starting a new chapter. Stop sweating the small stuff. As long as it's the right person meeting you up there at the altar the rest is just details.
