We toured VT right after UVA. DC loved VT and hated UVA (yeah, go figure). She loved the feel of the VT campus and how centralized around the drill field it felt compared to some of the sprawling campuses we had seen. She loved the motto "to serve" (or something like that - I'm not a Hokie nor am plugging the school for any reason). We happened to hit the campus on a glorious day and had a great tour guide. Food was wonderful. Faculty were very interested in DD and outgoing. Students everywhere and all were smiling. Admissions officer was outgoing and fun. DC was beaming by the end of the day. A lot of how kids react to schools turn just on how they feel that day and what kind of tour they have (tour guide at Drexel was hideous - she couldn't say a word without a "like" or "um" before or after the word). UVA didn't sing to her, VT did. Go figure. But she wants engineering so VT would be a good pick. And we're Virginians so the price is right. Now just to do that application ED and get in ........... I truly hate this process.
