Being able to send 80 kids to Winter Classic definitely creates some selection problems. It's different than summer swim when you can just go down the ladder. You have to look across strokes and try to figure out the kids who are likely to score points ideally in multiple events. Definitely having swum a bunch of different events makes a big difference- b/c the kids need times in most if not all events to be considered. I do think that the coaches look some at attitude- they want kids who they can count on to show up for all 3-4 days and come back for finals if they make it. They may also slightly favor kids whose parents they can count on to volunteer- even more so if the parent is an official. The attitude and volunteering aren't going to put a slower kid in over a faster kid- but when picking between 2 I suspect it helps. [/quote]
