Yes, that was a pretty strong denial. And the two responses from at least one person offered nothing substantive to the thread. That should be the most telling point.

End of the day any coach with any sort of good sense would know where the line is between being friendly but professional with the parents of the kids you coach and actually being chummy with them. If Torey wants his Club to be successful he needs to learn how to do that quickly.

That may be a bit harsh of a check on a parent, but I do agree the anonymity makes posters feel they can toss any allegation they want.

I did look across genders and age groups and I did not see anyone there who didn't deserve to be there. This is such an odd post when 1) York "won" the meet by significant margins, and 2) this is so easy to look up.

I'm so sorry you are wrapped up around this one. I get that you feel your kid should have been there and as a parent you want to fight for them, but this is a stretch at best.

Different poster (also a York parent and not a tuckahoe member)- I strongly disagree that Tuckahoe kids were favored to swim at winter classic. Honestly I think that is absurd. Being able to send 80 kids to Winter Classic definitely creates some selection problems. It's different than summer swim when you can just go down the ladder. You have to look across strokes and try to figure out the kids who are likely to score points ideally in multiple events. Definitely having swum a bunch of different events makes a big difference- b/c the kids need times in most if not all events to be considered. I do think that the coaches look some at attitude- they want kids who they can count on to show up for all 3-4 days and come back for finals if they make it. They may also slightly favor kids whose parents they can count on to volunteer- even more so if the parent is an official. The attitude and volunteering aren't going to put a slower kid in over a faster kid- but when picking between 2 I suspect it helps.

Happens with T all the time. His tuckahoe swimmers have gotten preferential treatment for years. Winter Classic rosters are a perfect example.


This is BS. The great thing about this sport is it really is empirical and the times are readily available. Spent two minutes looking it up: went to meet mobile to see who swam for York at the Winter Classic and then compared to the rankings on swimcloud for York filtered by age group to see who was highest rated and then compared to the roster on mynvsl to see the Tuckahoe list. Results are that this post is full of crap. No swimmer got passed over so a Tuckahoe kid could swim who didn't earn it.

If your kid didn't get to swim I understand you may be looking for other reasons to rationalize it, but don't spread your hatred here with thin allegations.


Agree 100%. York had kids attend Winter Classic from all NVSL teams—not just Tuckahoe. Coach T selected swimmers from Donaldson Run, Chesterbrook, Overlee, Highlands, Yes, a lot of Tuckahoe swimmers attended, but they’re all strong swimmers who earned their spots.
