They annoyingly follow up on their recommendations until implemented. Congress often reaches out to ask GAO if agencies make progress. Congress sometimes uses that info against agency during appropriation process or hearings. GAO testifies often at hearings. Congress has passed laws influenced in part by GAO work. All of this influence with no authority. That’s pretty good. What influence will DOGE have? Their work will be partisan af and will not be respected one bit. At least with GAO we know its fact based and has some rigor to it. [/quote]
