It is unfortunate if this decision was forced by contract negotiations. If it was that, it's relatable to many people who have found themselves in the same situation as they aged.
I don’t think it’s an age thing. NBC knows they are never going to attract a younger demographic as more and more people are getting rid of cable. I think they would’ve loved to have her a few more years but it’s very difficult to keep paying $20 million a year when the show is declining.
NBC and the Today Show are not cable stations.
Right, but if you get rid of cable, isn’t it tougher to watch the local stations? It’s my understanding that when people get rid of cable, they basically just have streaming set up and it’s harder to watch even just NBC and ABC and CBS. Some of the younger folks on my team at work don’t have cable and they were having trouble watching the Olympics unless they got Peacock streaming. Even though NBC had the Olympics, they acted as if they just don’t have access to channels beyond streaming.
It's very easy: get an antenna and watch any network station, assuming you live in an area in which you can pick up the signals. I live about 30 minutes from the closest station and have no trouble getting NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox (for sports).
