Right, but if you get rid of cable, isn’t it tougher to watch the local stations? It’s my understanding that when people get rid of cable, they basically just have streaming set up and it’s harder to watch even just NBC and ABC and CBS.

Some of the younger folks on my team at work don’t have cable and they were having trouble watching the Olympics unless they got Peacock streaming. Even though NBC had the Olympics, they acted as if they just don’t have access to channels beyond streaming.

It's very easy: get an antenna and watch any network station, assuming you live in an area in which you can pick up the signals. I live about 30 minutes from the closest station and have no trouble getting NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox (for sports).

You can also get YouTube TV which has basically every channel you would have had with cable. No antenna needed.

It’s more that the culture has shifted. I don’t think a lot of young people are buying antennas to watch morning TV. But to your point on YouTube, I think most people are into streaming and binging things. Today show is something that you kind of have on the background. And now a lot of people are putting on podcasts or music if they want background noise, and they get their news a different way.

People can argue all they want about how you can still technically watch the today show, but my larger point was that people are not. Seems like it has some years left, but I seriously wonder if it will be around in 10 years.

Good for her. Genuinely happy for her. I think it’s going to be harder than her to attract people to have something like that today. Show because I don’t think they’re going to be able to pay them what they paid Savannah and the hosts before her. It’s just not going to be the cash cow it once was given the shift in how people consume media.

I imagine endorsements and working on things like podcast and books are going to be much easier on her schedule. She probably will still have to travel a fair bit but she could do a lot more from her home and she doesn’t have to be at a studio at 6 AM every morning getting make up done.

I don't know anyone who watches the Today Show. It was a big deal back in the 1980's but is now sort of irrelevant because none of the news they report is actually new.

A lot of chairs are shifting in the news business. Norah O Donnell will be out as CBS anchor after the election, and Jeff Glor announced his departure yesterday.
