Got ahold of my boyfriend at the time who was asleep and didn't know what had happened. His sister was also in DC so he desperately tried to get ahold of her then found out a friend was supposed to be at a building near the World Trade Center that morning - waited till that evening to find out he was ok.

Remember everyone afterwards putting small American flags on their cars, the antennas and/or rear windshields. Flags were everywhere.[/quote]

DP but I frequently visited Long Island back then and had since I was a kid, taking the Throgs Neck Bridge. Always, since I was very young, I would look at the skyline and pick out the Empire State Building and Twin Towers. It was so awful and sad to drive over the bridge after that and not see the towers.[/quote]
