I don't do this, but perhaps the teacher doesn't feel comfortable "picking favorites" so shrinks her numbers with an objective measure. That doesn't sound nuts to me. But I can usually identify the people who will get a 5 in advance anyway. Maybe there are 1 or 2 surprises in the group. [/quote]
