Only in DC with it's messed up school lottery system would there be complaints about an immersion language school giving their students the opportunity to visit the country where the language is spoken. It's a Chinese immersion school, the kids are going to China! Doubtful there would be complaints if the parents had any connection or interest in China in the first place rather than sending their kid to a Chinese immersion school only because of their luck in the lottery and no other equal or better alternatives.
Is your understanding that only family of financial means should afford their child(rne) with the gift of an immersion education. Look, I support the trip and when the time comes, my family has the financial resources to send our child, plus one parent. But everyone does not have the finances, and I understand those parents concern. I personally think the gala auction money should be used from this year forth to help fund the China trip. If so, I think more parents would be more supportive of the auction. BTW--YY was not our first or second choice. However, we have come to embrace the language and support our child's second language. We do not have a connection to China and yes we did get lucky in the lottery. But bitch, so did you.
