Does anybody really think that when a child commits suicide it has nothing whatsoever to do with their parents or how they were parented or the relationship past and present with their parents? I know this is a hard truth to face. But c'mon. Brings to mind the famous JFK quote: Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.
Plenty of people have wonderful relationships with their parents and go on to commit suicide, and plenty of people are estranged from their parents and never have a suicidal thought in their life. We don't know why Garrison chose to do this. We do know that suicide is often a culmination of many things, not just one thing, and that the act itself is incredibly impulsive. Doing it successfully often depends on whether or not you have a method lying around. If you don't have a gun on hand, which unfortunately Garrison did, you have time to cool down. It sounds to me like an acute suicidal crisis, which can come on quickly and then deescalate as quickly as it came. His roommates also told police he had a bit of a drinking problem. The guy adopted a cat less than a week before. To me, that does not sound like someone seething about his relationship with his father for two or three years. But here's the thing about Kody. Even if it had to do with the estrangement...Kody is in hell right now. He is paying a price that far, far outweighs what he did. He called his child an a hole on television. That does not mean he deserves to bury that child. We don't need to tell him that he is an awful parent. He will live with that thought for the rest of his life. I have nothing but compassion for him in this moment.
That would assume he feels any responsibility whatsoever. He’s a narcissist. He’s probably blaming everyone else. I have zero compassion for him.
