Purdue Exponent on yesterday's events during the trial. https://www.purdueexponent.org/campus/article_eee04b98-ba4c-11ee-9b08-7bff62bbda5e.html
Professor Janelle Wharry testified Monday about overhearing Ishii asking another professor to deny her own tenure vote and calling her, another professor and their students "stupid, lazy Americans." Bolstering that, recently retired nuclear engineering research professor Jeffrey Brooks said on the stand that he heard "extensive statements" from Ishii against women. "He would call women stupid, lazy, incompetent and taking advantage of the stupid U.S. legal system, the stupid Affirmative Action system," Brooks said, adding that Ishii would severely criticize female faculty, including the department head at the time. ... Asked whether he had ever heard Ishii make derogatory statements, Hassanein said, "It's uncomfortable, but he stated several times 'Women are stupid, and white men are lazy and stupid. He made a statement also regarding our dean one time ... He said, 'She shouldn't be the dean. She's a stupid woman,' and told me she was hired just because the U.S. requires women to be in high positions."

Purdue legal team miscalculated taking this to trial. I imagine they will renew settlement talks after seeing the reactions of black jurors at that affirmative action statement. Not to mention what female jurors will think of these blatant statements from someone trying to limit a woman's career progression.
I don't think we know enough about prior settlement talks to judge the calculations of Purdue's legal team. Kind of depends how high the Plaintiff's last demand was.
The plaintiff is asking for a tenure position at Purdue - #5 engineering school in the country. If she succeeds, there's not enough seats to settle all the students who were denied at T10 schools in the country.
