It doesn't sound like many counselors are making kids aware of this requirement for an advanced diploma though or giving a list of how it's fulfilled. FCPS should have a page that explains this. Not just make it a footnote five on their page for graduation. https://www.fcps.edu/graduation-requirements-and-course-planning/first-time-ninth-2018-19 Shouldn't they have another subtopic page from this page on elective sequencing? https://www.fcps.edu/academics/graduation-requirements-and-course-planning/high-school-course-sequencing
+1 very poor planning. They should be explaining it to all rising 9th graders.
They are explaining it. Your kids just aren't listening.
My kids aren’t rising freshman yet. I just happened to be reading the graduation requirements and saw the tiny footnote at the bottom with no further explanation. Parents need to be told of the requirements, not just the kids. It seems there is a communication failure. None of the high school parents I know knew of this requirement.
Our HS has an example of course sequencing for kids, including those who want to get the IB diploma. It also has links explaining the program. And it also provides links to other programs like the academy. I think they also have a program for parents/incoming freshmen in the spring. The information is available. What else do you want?
