People with mental issues wandering around the city and assaulting people are routine in downtown DC, and never make the news. Even worse, most of the time, the police refuse to enforce the law because of the “mental issues” of the perpetrators. The difference now is the victims and circumstances. Preschool teachers attacked in front of their kids. So sad. This new DC is full of crime, thanks to Mayor Bowser.
I lived there from 2005 (and had an open air drug market when I arrived - woman living alone) until 2014, this is a terrible incident, but not indicative of what happens there/near there even back in 2005. These 'crime is everywhere' harpies are nuts. Scared to leave their houses, thinking eveything is ridled with crime and criminals, why not move to Kansas - oh, right the Opiods and meth...I guess nowhere is safe. Maybe a bunker???
Friend, we are living in 2023. What happened when you lived there almost 20 years ago, or even almost 10, isn't relevant.
