How does one apply to become an equity officer? Is there a job description somewhere? At $232k, it appears the position pays more than what a teacher can ever make with a PhD https://govsalaries.com/king-nardos-e-143711008 The max an fcps teacher with Phd can ever earn is $135k https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/FY23-teacher-260-day.pdf
Interesting concern troll. This is a former assistant superintendent with probably 25+ years in the system who moved into a new role. The salary is high, yea, but seems more based on seniority than being role-specific. Administrators generally earn more than teachers. We can probably agree that’s wrong, but I suspect that’s not what this is about for you. Rather, you have a bug up your butt about the letters D, E, and I.
King does not deserve $232K. That’s a shocking salary for a public school system.
That’s only your opinion. We can have a discussion about the remuneration to long-serving administrators — I won’t even disagree with you much in that regard, although it’s a common dynamic and structure at most organizations where executives are paid more. But you injected the DEI thing as if *THAT* is what she doesn’t deserve to be paid for. And made it personal. If you are so blind as to the facts and circumstances of how a long-serving executive got to a place in her career where she would earn this amount in virtually ANY executive role, I can’t help you. The DEI role is a red herring and you want to place a spotlight on it, that’s a terrible look.
She isn't long serving with FCPS. She was long serving in a role where she absolutely failed. This should be a step down with a salary to reflect it. She should not be one of the highest paid county employees
Nardos King has "served" FCPS for over 15 years - I think even close to 20 or more. She started at Mount Vernon High School back in the early 2000s as the finance person - maybe even the 1990s. She rose through the ranks and became principal of MVHS around 2006/2007. She was principal at MVHS until Sept 2015. She left two weeks into the school year to take the Baltimore assistant superintendent role. She was only in Baltimore a couple of years and came back to FCPS as an Executive Principal in 2018 or 2019. She was promoted to the Region 3 Superintendent in 2019. Why do I know her history? Because I have children at MVHS and we have been in the MVHS pyramid since 2005. She often talks about her long tenure at MVHS. Has she failed in her roles in FCPS? As a parent, I would say she did not fail as the principal at MVHS. My oldest was a sophomore in high school when she left MVHS. I never heard rave reviews about her but I also didn't hear people actively complaining about her either. Between my three children, we've been through three principals at MVHS and all three of them have been fine. I do find her to be a dynamic and motivating speaker. She also was very strict with the dress code. Does she deserve to be one of the highest paid county employees? Again, I don't know the answer to that.
