Now you get to make the choice between Local Level IV and the Level IV Center.  You may wish to search this forum for threads that discuss the differences. Here are a few threads but there are many others:

The July 2009 School Board retreat provided specifics about the number of Center eligible students that opted for Local Level IV as well as the Level IV Center. See the second and third pages.

There were a small number of Center-eligible students at the school (eight 3rd graders and one 4th grader). At that time (2009) this small cohort mostly decided to stay at the base school. Unfortunately there is no more recent data showing how many Center-eligible students there are at Silverbrook and what they opted to do.

If you look at the profile for Lorton Station ES on the FCPS website, it shows the 2011-2012 membership numbers of roughly 185 students in the AAP Level IV Center (all grades). Therefore it appears there are roughly 2 AAP Center classes per grade.

You will need to make the decision about what peer group would be best for your child -- the small cohort at Silverbrook or the larger peer group at Lorton Station.

One thing to remember is you can switch from one school to another the following year. So you could stay at the base school for this coming school year and switch to the Center in 2013-2014. You know your child best and how that might work. I know for my kids, the peer group at the Center made a big difference. But I have no first-hand knowledge of Silverbrook or Lorton Station, and Local Level IV really differs from school to school.
