https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1131259.page
Conservative America has far more gun deaths than liberal America, study finds A comprehensive new study breaks down how firearm deaths correlate to pro- or anti-gun control politics A horrific recent trend of mass shootings has severely polarized Americans on the topic of firearms. At the center of this heated controversy lies the policy question of gun control: Should the government impose restrictions on firearms and other dangerous weapons to protect the public? Conservatives turn to the Second Amendment to argue that the Constitution's right to bear arms is sacred; liberals will argue that conservatives are misinterpreting the Second Amendment and that gun control policies have been proven to save lives. The conservative rejoinder to gun control, of course, is that good people with guns can protect the public from bad people with guns. Yet several recent studies have revealed the exact opposite: In regions dominated by pro-gun politicians, the number of gun deaths is far higher than in areas controlled by pro-gun control politicians. [...] More: https://www.salon.com/2023/05/01/conservative...america-study-finds/
You ever look at the breakdown of who is dying in conservative states?
Along what lines/categories?
Age/racial demographics. If you did, you would see that in red states, most of the firearms deaths for whites are among older males as suicides'. Most of the firearms deaths overall are younger black males are homicides, at 10-20x the rate of their white peers. It's a social justice issue that transcends which party is in power and which state you are in.
Red state citizens - regardless of demographic or wealth lines - die at higher rates and earlier than their counterparts in Blue states. Pretty much all of the negative trends are more pronounced in Republican run states. If you’re a white wealthy guy in Alabama, you’re more likely to die young or violently than a white wealthy guy in Scarsdale. White women giving birth in Alabama have a higher infant mortality rate than their white counterparts in Massachusetts. No one is impressed by white Alabamans who say “yeah, well the black guy across town is worse off than me!”
You're focusing on the wrong thing. When the same thing occurs in red or blue states among the same group, then that it is not the Rs nor the D's that are providing solutions. Either both the R's and the D's are deliberately discriminating against them in some way, the solutions they provide simply don't work, or that demographic has some unique cultural feature. It's a hot potato that no one wants to address. Over police that group, you run into problems. Neglect that group, you into problems. Pass more laws, you don't solve the problems. Throw more cash into services, you don't solve the problems. Hence nothing changes.
