Look at those goal posts move!
Yes they've moved, because our communities have gotten less safe. It's not crazy to look at what politicians are actually doing vs what they say they will do. What, are we supposed to just be happy that they make promises to us at all? Regardless of whether they keep them? Violence is spiraling out of control. They should be passing gun control or at a minimum, enforcing the laws already on the books. They are doing neither. I don't need politicians to be an influencer class that just tells me gun control is good. They need to actually do their jobs and pass the laws, oversee the enforcement, appropriate funding, etc.
The goal posts have moved since a couple of hours ago when a PP said, "No one is attempting to pass gun control legislation at the federal level. Not the GOP, and not the Democrats." This is just false. If a person doesn't think the proposals are going far enough or that lawmakers are doing enough to try to get the measures passed? Fine. Say that.
None of this matters. And you are focusing on the wrong thing. And it's despicable.
Says you. Democrats are trying to enact federal gun control restrictions, and they should get credit for that. Not just lumped in with Republicans as part of a nihilistic #BothSides complaint.
They are not doing enough. They aren't doing anything that will put a serious dent in this issue. And they are super soft on crime, disdain crime victims, and pretend that we should ignore crime because somehow that will help minority communities (which is clearly false). So they aren't stopping the flow of guns AND are actively stopping the enforcement of laws. You know this is true. You just haven't let yourself accept that they gave hung us out to dry.
You are just repeating a tired partisan narrative. Democrats don’t want to ignore crime and until you can bother yourself enough to learn the true opinions of people it is useless to try to discuss anything intelligently with you.
The true opinions have been stated many times. Democrats believe we can reduce gun violence by reducing the supply of guns. Republicans believe we can reduce gun violence with aggressive policing and stronger criminal penalties. So now we have the worst of all worlds with no real gun control and no real criminal enforcement. This is not a partisan talking point. Partisans are busy explaining why it's the other party's fault. I am saying that I think there's many ways to reduce gun violence and right now, politicians are doing less than ever to reduce gun violence and the problem is escalating.
