OP there’s nothing you could have said that would have made that woman apologize or even feel bad. People like that lack any self awareness and think they are the main character in life. I think we all know the type. I’m sorry that happened to you and your daughter.
NP. I disagree, I think “It’s a device that monitors her diabetes” would have made the woman apologize and slink away in shame, but of course OP shouldn’t have to share her kid’s medical info. Someday this woman will learn about these sorts of devices and, hopefully, feel like an ass.
She did say in the OP that she said “that’s how she tracks her blood sugar” so she kind of said that, without explicitly mentioning diabetes, but the woman didn’t seem to care or respond. I think people like this are so unimaginative and set in their ways and mindset that they literally can’t even imagine a 7 year old needing to monitor their diabetes. Like it’s so far outside the realm of what’s possible in their small minds that OP might as well have said that her daughter was, I don’t know, training to be the first tween astronaut or something. Unfortunately these people are everywhere in our society!
That woman is vile and clearly wasn't going to apologize no matter what OP said. But just because she didn't apologize doesn't mean she did not inwardly feel ashamed. Her silence after OP told her about monitoring blood sugar makes me think she was in fact ashamed (since she is certainly not the keep-silent type).
