Woodward is supposed to have a magnet program when it opens.  Regional, I think, maybe arts/performing arts?  They were going to be building that out while the displaced Northwood population resided there for 2 years after completion of phase 1.[/quote]

Nah, just the nearby adjacent schools like WJ, Einstein, and BCC. By making room at these schools, they can shift their boundaries to create room at other adjacent DCC schools when needed.[/quote]

BCC is nowhere near Woodward—it's 5.8 miles away. I can't imagine they'd bus kids that far, especially with morning commuter traffic.

Some kids can go to WJ from BCC, they don't have to bus to Woodward. WJ can move more kids to Woodward to make extra space. So on ....[/quote]

Current school catchments aren't immutable, populations and needs change, and, despite schools being listed by agents when a home is on the market, the purchase of a home or signing of a lease does not confer a right to any particular school.

Folks are making suggestions within a discussion.  One that is unlikely to have any real influence over MCPS/BOE decisions, but one that is reasonable to have and with the potential to be informative.

The CIP reflects MCPS's plans. If MCPS's plans change, the CIP changes. The current CIP says, "To address the urgent space needs at Walter Johnson High School and the Downcounty Consortium high schools, an FY 2019 appropriation was approved for planning funds to reopen Charles W. Woodward High School." If MCPS changes that, it will mean that MCPS has changed its plans.[/quote]

Yes, everyone knows that Woodward is needed urgently to help WJ and DCC overcrowding. No one is denying that.

It hardly means that entire Woodward has to be populated exclusively with WJ and DCC area. Some DCC kids can go to BCC and some BCC kids can go to Woodward. All of that will still be there to help WJ and DCC, but boundaries has very little to with it.[/quote]
I find it very hard to believe that with all the fuss about the lack of diversity in the Ws that the BOE will re-open Woodward and populate it exclusively with students from Bethesda. Distances don’t seem to be a strength with a lot of posters here, but there are feeders to Einstein and Wheaton that are just as close if not closer to Woodward than any of the BCC feeders (Sargent Shriver, Viers Mill, Wheaton Woods, Highland, and OTES) and are much more diverse.[/quote]
This. Woodward use to be open and some of the elementary schools that go to Wheaton now went to Woodward then. Definitely Veirs Mill but there were others.[/quote]
