Right or wrong. ADA is not any kind of guarantee. The employer needs to make reasonable accommodations and if they can’t, you lose your job. Schools in some places decided it was reasonable to let workers do their jobs from home. And we all know public schools were not going to go out of business making that decision. Do we need to go through the professions where people had no choice and kept going to work if they wanted a paycheck. So many. I don’t have a particular problem with what went down and I’m glad teachers were safe and their families too. But I do think teachers need to recognize how lucky they were to keep jobs and not have to endanger themselves at all when many workers didn’t have that option. APA's distance learning programming during the Fall of 2020 was NOT at all about ADA. It was a school district choice to keep learning virtual and keep students, staff and families safe. I agree the distance learning program was not entirely about ADA but the number of people seeking out ADA accommodations was certainly a factor in the school district deciding to go virtual. The school district was faced with telling all those people to come in or they were fired at a time when they already were having a lot of labor problems. The ADA also explicitly guarantees that "Persons discriminated against because they have a known association or relationship with a disabled individual also are protected" -- and those people can apply for protection under the ADA, although they do not have the disability themselves.
