It's not for everyone but a huge number of high achievers applied from my DC's school (and, no, not as a "safety"...they are applying because it really appeals to them, especially for STEM and design.) [/quote] Also in some fields employers explicitly state that relevant work experience is more important than where you went to college, even for new grads. College with strong coop programs are very popular for this reason.[/quote]
