Teacher here. I’ll be teaching new content and offering to stay late with anyone who needs additional support. I’ll go into greater detail with rigor the new content after the O day. But I am not doing zilch on those days.
I asked if I could do that (introduce a new concept if it was going to have additional days of instruction). Got a resounding “no” from admin and central office when one administrator reaches out for clarification. The first day of a concept cannot be on an O day. Period. It’s idiotic. I literally printed out first day of school team building activities because there is nothing we can review yet (2 whole days of content so far!)
I’ll seek forgiveness after the fact. I didn’t ask. So I don’t know really what my school is following
Honestly, there was a training. It is not what the school is following. It is a county wide initiative. Don’t teach new content. It isn’t a hard concept. I don’t agree with it by any means, but to say you don’t know what the school is doing is wrong. Practice a skill that you will be doing many times a year.
100%, this is why the parents get upset . There’s always a handful of teachers who break the rules and make the rest of look bad.
