It'd be Stanford-tier if it weren't in cold, flyover and crime-ridden south Chicago. But it is in cold, flyover, and crime-ridden south Chicago -- so the kids who get into some place equally prestigious with better surroundings will always choose it over Hyde Park. (And honestly, Notre Dame would also be Stanford and Harvard-tier were it not in dumpy Indiana.) Durham is a craphole too but at least it's warm and on the East Coast.
Lol. Notre Dame is nowhere near the tier of these schools. And woah there, don't believe everything Fox Channel spoon-feeds you. I agree that UChicago is overrated, but Chicago is a fantastic city, and objectively beautiful. You forget that it's the third largest city in America. Duke doesn't even merit a mention in this conversation. Pass.
It takes literally an hour to get to the beautiful downtown Chicago parts you think of when you think "Chicago" via public transportation. Chicago is the capital of the Midwest, so obviously the Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa kids find it impressive — but to Seattle, LA, SF, NYC, DC and Boston kids, it's just another city. And it feels provincial and so far away from other major cities. And the weather is brutal and depressing.
