It’s funny how we denigrate clubs by claiming they get results because of “kick and run” tactics. I suspect 90% of the people on these forums have no clue what they are talking about. If you believe a style of play is superior, but it never performs - is it really better? The excuses are getting thick...
Nobody needs to make excuses for a result in a game involving tweens. This is absurd. I will tell you the same thing when your boys take an a$$-pounding at the end of the year from smarter kids who know how to play, just as in years past. And I am sure you will put your boys in six or seven tournaments in your never ending search for a trophies and gotsoccer points. And Arlington will still beat you anyway. So stew on that.
I saw neither game, but have read enough on this forum to get that most posters who scream about kick and run are really just poor observers of the game and don't like a direct style of play out of the counterattack, lumping it all together as "kick and run", lamenting kids who can run all day long are just faster and hope that they'll come back to masses in their future fitness. Fast, direct play is certainly style, not just in soccer, but many other sports including basketball. Go check out VCU basketball and their Havoc press defense if you want to see a simple application, or 40 minutes of Hell from Arkansas defense. But since this is a soccer forum, I'll leave you this recent link to read about Liverpool directly from themselves. Any analysis that starts and ends with "they were faster and just kicked the ball past us" and doesn't consider if that was just direct is missing out. Go watch a few of these games and watch how quickly the balls gets played through to space by the backs straight up top with a clean ball and proper pace and direction. That's skill matched with athleticism and fitness. Silly Americans dads. https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-jurgen-klopp-premier-league-17803219
